The new season of American Idol airs tonight, and I have to tell you that I was a fan of the show in the first few seasons.
Last year I discovered the Vote For the Worst (VFTW) blog. If you’ve never heard of it, then you should pay it a visit.
The sole purpose of the blog is to spoil the American Idol voting system by identifying the worst contestant and getting people to vote for that person. They claim Sanjaya as one of their successes.
Read interesting stories about how things work behind the scenes, and you get a sense that the show is not really authentic (if the stories are to be believed). For example, there are rumours of contestants ‘planted’ in the show. These are people who have previous recording experience, or working experience with the judges such as Randy or Simon.
Here are some quick links (spoilers):
What I also like about the site is they do update readers on the latest news on past Idol contestants, which is useful since some of them don’t make it to regular entertainment news.
You can also read more about the new judge Kara DioGuardi.
Make sure you go read VFTW before watching American Idol, and you won’t look at the show the same way again.

I’ve heard of the show before, but I never knew what it was; from what I read in your post, it seems to be some sort of competition?
Adino: Yeah, it’s a singing competition. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it… you don’t have much time to watch TV, do you?

I just saw it on TV a couple of hours ago, and as usual it was hilarious…hehehe…plant or no plant, I will still watch it. Thanks for the VFTW link!
Adino: I managed to watch the first half hour only, it was quite entertaining. I hope I can catch the repeat.

I haven’t heard of the VFTW site before, but you can be sure I’ll be hanging out there often! *wink wink*
Adino: It’s eye opening, some of the articles they write about there.

Not much time at all. I don’t watch TV often.

It won’t affect me at all
For me, I watch it for entertainment
Remember, this is all about show business?
I would only care about it, if I am a contestant
Since I am not, I will only root for those whose voice I like
For instance, Carrie Underwood
I like her voice, period
Whoever say she can’t sing, can just go home
Adino: For me it’s entertainment too, now you can get entertained on TV and then get entertained to know what happens behind the scenes.
