Blogging Idol

Posted August 14th 2007 @ 8:28 am by Adino

A serious post for you all today.

My church DUMC is moving to the Dream Centre next month, and senior pastor Daniel has called for church members to go on a 21 day fast and prayer. The reason for this is he wants us be in tune with God’s direction, and to prepare us as a church to make a greater impact when we move there.

Personally, my purpose for going on this 21 day fasting and prayer is to see a breakthrough in God’s presence in my marriage. I want to prepare a Godly atmosphere in my home.

I feel like a papa doggy that is building his nest to prepare for his puppies (don’t ask me where mama doggy went… or why dogs build nests). I want to prepare a Godly home for my children.

Yesterday morning we went to church at 5:30am for a time of worship and seeking God. I was half asleep driving there but the cool morning air refreshed me. It was a powerful time of the church crying out to God to intervene in our nation. The church was jam-packed.

During worship time I had this vision of what I’m guessing is a legion of angels.

There were rows and rows of soldiers dressed in battle armour standing on a wide plain. They had very hard faces and looked very intimidating.

There was a platform at the very front, and their general went on the platform. Without a word, and without a sound, every single soldier went on one knee and bowed down. It seems like they were waiting for instructions.

Well, I don’t know if it’s a vision from God or if it’s my imagination again (the soldiers all looked quite handsome like in the movie 300).

Yesterday pastor told us to look at the sins in our lives, like hard heartedness, stony hearts, unforgiveness and disobedience. Today the message continues on the theme of repentance, talking about the idols in our lives.

Idols are things that consume our attention and distract our focus away from the things of God. Pastor gave us a time of quiet reflection, and I realized that this blog has become an idol in my life.

I realize that I have become so addicted to blogging that I have neglected other things. Everywhere I go I think about blogging, even when I am in church. Blogging has consumed me, and without realizing I have let it become my idol.

I’m not saying that blogging is wrong or evil. I’m just saying that I allowed it take my focus.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to quit blogging or write less. I just have to change my mindset, and allow other things to take higher priority.

Thanks for listening.

I probably need to write a post on “a Christian and his Blog” soon. I suspect too many of us are too caught up with this blogging phenom to the detriment of our spiritual disciplines.

    Adino: Yeah, good idea.

wahh…your post makes me think…i think i need to slow down and repent too lar… also horr i think bloggers really are in a position to influence many people, especially those blogs with like 20,000 hits a day, so should really use it well…

Adino: I think it depends on individual bloggers. I think most people can handle it well, but I’m just saying recently it seems to have taken over a large part of my attention.

Eh! I didn’t know you worship at DUMC. You going to the MPC or not? I’ve registered liao and will also be attending the Sunday worship on 02.09.2007.

Oh yes, do not lose focus on God. Many things can distract us from Him.

Adino: Yeah, I joined my wife there after our wedding. What is MPC ah? Is it the conference taking place next weekend? I’m attending that conference. 02/09 service will be the first service in the new building… go early to grab a seat!

Hope to be able to meet you hehe… if you don’t mind I can email you my hp number so we can set a meeting place.

ur right! blogging can be a very addictive activity that will quietly, and slowly take away our priorities and focus! its wonderful that u highlight this seemingly petty issue but an important area for us to be careful of. Thanks !

Adino: Opposite your dad’s shop? Please please please please tell me your dad owns the KFC!

MPC - Methodist Prayer Convention. I’ve signed up for Rev Tie’s talk and hope to be able to attend his on the 1st Sept. As for the service, it is at Stadium Melawati. All Methodist churches are not holding services in the morning of the 2nd Sept as we are all encouraged to worship together.

Adino: Ohhh. I didn’t sign up for that convention, but I heard the announcement about it last weekend. Looks like we won’t get to meet :(

Adino: Yeah, that’s weird. Wonder what it means?
