I Wrote Three Short Stories in 1997

I was looking for my old Geocities website, and I came across three stories I wrote way back in 1997. I was in college, and was really into Diablo. Every night I will be logged in to Battle.Net not for playing the multi player game, but to chat with my online pals in the chat channel Diablo Retail One.

In fact, we used to laugh at people going in to play the game, because by that time everyone knew how to ‘dupe’ items and there was no point playing the game anymore. One of the pals I met was Keith (nickname Jaq). I sent him several stories I wrote, and he kindly published them in his homepage.

Reading the stories really made me laugh, because it’s funny to see what I was thinking 10 years ago. It all seems to childish and immature now. It also brought back many pleasant memories of my online pals.

Warning: Do NOT read if you’re under 18.

A Warrior, A Rogue and a Sorceror

If you played Diablo, these are the character classes you can play in the game. This describes the adventure of Jaq the Warrior, Dream the Rogue and me as the sorcerer. I had just finished reading the first book of Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series, so there was some of the book’s influence there. Contains excessive violence.

Adino’s Got a Fever

If Poey Chin reads this, I’m sleeping in the hall tonight. Adino is the high magus of the Spice Guild, and Jaq the stalker is trying to attack Adino’s guild members. The story ends up with Adino being knocked out and one of the Spice Girls reviving him… Contains excessive reference to the Spice Girls.

Logan

This is the most serious story of them all. I started writing about this lonely hero-type character called Logan. Sadly I didn’t get to write another chapter. Inspired by the Death Gate Cycle series of books. Contains excessive violence.

Well, that’s it! I actually love writing (mostly because I love reading). If I were to write a story today, it would either be:

  1. An emo sobby love story.
  2. Cool sci-fi story full of alien robots that can shape shift into different forms who come to earth to fight their war (hah! I bet no one thought of that!).

P/S: I just finished Terry Goodkind’s tenth book in the Sword of Truth series “Phantom” and it’s getting really exciting. All the major characters are gathered at the People’s Palace in D’Hara for the final showdown in the next and final book in the series.
