Yesterday while I was in the middle of writing a sponsored post, Beng Beng told me via MSN that my Google PR dropped to zero.
His blog dropped to zero too. I quickly went over to SelfSEO.com and checked my PR just to confirm. Zero.
I’m so depressed right now. Everything that I knew about blogging turned out to be a BIG LIE!
I thought that getting more incoming links would mean a higher PR. According to SelfSEO I have 4,624 back links. Apparently that doesn’t mean anything.
My question is, if Google is artificially lowering page ranks for certain websites, what is to stop them from artificially raising page ranks?
It’s frustrating. And depressing.
Anyway… I don’t know what to do. I mean I literally don’t know what to do, because so far I can’t find any official notice from Google about this. What I read is just “someone said that…” or “I think that…”.
Thinking rationally, I don’t think the zero PR will affect me in terms of blog readership. I certainly don’t care if a blog has zero PR or PR7, it’s the blogger and the content that matters most.
But this is going to affect me financially. My tiny blog doesn’t earn much from Google Adsense and other CPC ads. Making things worse is WidgetBucks not paying for clicks outside the US.
I actually depend a lot on sponsored posts. Having PR zero means that I can’t get those high paying opps any more.
It also means I’m going to be writing more about liposuction surgery and credit cards instead of posts about more reputable companies.
It also means that my blog is worth as much as a blog that just started 5 minutes ago.
I know Google doesn’t like selling text link ads, but does this include sponsored posts?
Anyone can advice me what to do?Update: I just read here that Google is now going after those who write paid posts. Now, this means that if we were to follow Google’s commandments, we’re left with AdSense (or similar) types of income. And everyone knows that AdSense accounts can be suspended at any time. Sigh….

Exactly what makes the paid types of posts so wrong? I don’t see why they should reduce your PR to zero for that. I hope your PR increases someday, at least close to where it used to be. But don’t get too frustrated over the PR.
Adino: From Google’s point of view, we’re messing up their system when we write paid posts. Each link we give out will boost that website’s Google PR and improve search rankings.
