Money Dropped from the Sky

Posted February 19th 2008 @ 10:28 pm by Adino

Just now when I came home from work, I checked my mail box and I found two letters from the Internal Revenue Board. Now, any letter from the income tax department is always bad news right? It usually means that you’re being audited or being asked to pay something.

With trembling hands, I opened the two envelopes. The first one contained a letter, so I placed it aside and opened the second one. The paper was a bit thicker, and it looks like a receipt of some kind. I saw the word ‘invoice‘ and I started cursing inwardly.

As I unfolded the thicker piece of paper, it started looking more like those letters I got from my investments every half yearly or so. I looked closely and it was a cheque for an income tax refund!

I love elections time! Everything is so efficient!

It was quite a nice sum of money… it is almost 25% of my monthly income. Can use to pay housing loan, or invest a couple of lots in some main board company.

Guess what I’m going to do with the money? In fact, I’ve already spent part of it.

This amount of money came at such a wonderful time, because I’ve been giving serious thought to donating to a worthy cause.

I thought that it would be so ironic to fund this ’cause’ using the government’s money.

If you know me, then you will know that I hardly part with my money compulsively. After all, I’m a frugal beagle and I hold on to my money really really tight. I tell you I almost cried when preparing ang paus this year.

However, it is now a crucial time and they really need the funds to stand a chance. They are facing an opponent who is not going to play fair, so they need all the help they can get.

I have donated my income tax rebate to the DAP Election Fund.

I encourage you to do the same. Even a small sum like 50 ringgit will be helpful. It’s a pivotal time in Malaysia’s history, and we cannot miss this opportunity.

Adino, please relink to the fund campaign as the url has changed. See Kit’s blog.

Adino: Thanks for letting me know. I’ve changed the link to point directly to the election fund page.

wuah you so nice but I think you should use the money for your baby

Adino: I didn’t use all of it. I feel it is worth giving them a bit of help, even though my contribution may not be much.

Hehehe… is that an indication of how you’ll be voting in the coming election?

But… what a nice ‘surprise’ to get!

Adino: DAP will not be contesting in my voting area, but yes, you can sort of guess who I won’t be voting for.
