Happy Mappy Peppy Friday

Posted January 11th 2008 @ 8:28 am by Adino

I feel so happy today. It could be the rush of seratonin and adrenaline in my blood from my week of daily exercise regime. It could be my wonderful outing to Bukit Cahaya Shah Alam with my CG yesterday. It could be waking up to a wonderful breakfast of wan tan mee (egg noodles) cooked by my wife.

It could be that it’s Friday. It could be that my Frugal Beagle blog had a record high number of 31 visitors on Wednesday. It could be the promise of a romantic evening with my wife tonight ;)

The answer is, all of the above!

Plus, I got my Google page rank back! Adino Online is at PR 2 now, which is not as good as what I expected, but it’s still better than zero.

On the other hand, I’m sad that I really have to say goodbye to all my paid post writing days. I’m sad that it’s getting harder for us to make money using our blogs. I’m sad that I have less freedom on what I can do and what I cannot do at my own blog.

I know that some of you may not care about Google page rank, but to me it’s important. It’s one of the benchmarks I use to measure the success of my blog, and the past few months with Google PR0 really sucked.

So it’s a fresh start and I look at my blog with a renewed hope. I feel like things are starting all anew. I feel like a school kid with a new set of stationery and exercise books with the new book smell, wearing a set of brand new bleach white school uniform.

Anyway, what did I do to get my page rank back? To sum it all in one sentence I took Lilian Chan’s advice.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I said I was doing a blog audit? Well, in addition to removing all posts that could be construed as seditious, I did the following:

  • removed all paid posts
  • deleted all text link ads
  • added nofollow tag for unnecessary links
  • deleted unnecessary tags or added nofollow to them

On January 5th I logged in to Google Webmaster Tools and asked for a reconsideration on my website. I wrote a short message similar to the previous paragraph telling them what I did. I also mentioned that my site was penalized for selling text links.

This morning I checked and page rank has been restored! I waited for around a week. Perhaps there were very few requests during the holiday season.

On a related note, my frugal beagle blog is still PR N/A, maybe the domain is still too new? If you haven’t seen my latest post, I told you how you could get IT Certification for free, sponsored by our tax dollars via the Malaysian Government.

Have a safe and happy weekend everyone!

I wonder when I can get mine back!

Adino: Have you submitted your site to Google for reconsideration?

Great! Actually, if only this sort of mood could be maintained, and shared by everyone… Okay, maybe I’m asking for too much.

Adino: Spread the joy, one person at a time, and before you know it everyone will be happy! :)

Sounds like everything’s going wonderfully for you! ^.^

Hmm… I wonder if I wanna do what you did to get back my PR? *grin*

Adino: That’s a question only you can answer :)
