IT Certification Exams Sponsored by Malaysian Government

(Originally published on my frugal blog on January 8 2008)

Have you ever dreamed of getting your IT certification for free, with no strings attached?

I just came across this training incentive offered by MDeC (the Multimedia Development Corporation) where you can claim exam and course fees back from the government. This program is being managed by MSC Malaysia K-Workers Development Institute (KDI).

Read on for further details on how you can take part in this offer.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Any Malaysian citizen who is a K-worker (in IT industry)
  • Any Malaysian citizen who works for MSC Status companies

What Can You Claim?

  • Up to RM500 in exam fees only
  • Up to 25% of course fees (courses must be at least 2 days)

Which Training Centres?

You can go to any training centre.

What Certification Is Recognized?

All the major IT certifications from Microsoft, Sun, Unix, CISCO, IBM and others are covered. Refer to the KDI website for a detailed list.

What’s the Catch?

  • You must pass the exam and submit a copy of your certificate as proof
  • You are only allowed to claim ONCE

When Can You Apply?

  • Cycle 1: Jan 1st – 31st
  • Cycle 2: Apr 1st – 30th
  • Cycle 3: Jul 1st – 31st
  • Cycle 4: Sep 1st – 30th

This looks like a good deal if you are thinking of getting an IT certification.

The only disadvantages are you can only claim for one exam, and you are required to pass the exam.

You can check more details at the KDI website (look under the Professional Enhancement Program section). The application forms are available from the same link.

They also have programs for undergraduates and postgraduates.

  1. Hi there,

It sounds amazing to have such opportunity, but why is it restricted to IT related personnels only? A lot of non-IT related personnels are also interested in such programmes and in real life whether the officials would like to admit it or not, a lot of personnels of other fields are the ones actually doing the real job anyway (in many depts, such is the case). It would be wonderful if these courses are extended to every government personnels, whomever interested, with Ketua Jabatan’s approval of course. Don’t you think that is more appropriate in current situation?
