Today I’m going to do another long-overdue tag from the Giddy Tigress.
It’s called the autograph book tag. Remember back in school, everyone used to pass around these exercise books called autograph books? If someone asked you to write an entry in their autograph book, it means they considered you their friend.
Upon receiving one of these books, you would try your best to fill one or two pages with your personal information such as date of birth, astrological sign, favourites, hobbies and so on, in the most creative way.
Sometimes these books will also be used to track some of the current events happening in school. For example, you will have all sorts of greetings like “All the best in SPM!”, “Friends Forever!” or “Beng loves Lian”.
And there would be some who had autograph books full of entries, from the front to the back, from all the most popular people in school. It was almost like a competition, where you got to “collect them all”.
If you detect a trace of sarcasm sprinkled with a bit of jealousy in my previous paragraphs, it’s because nobody passed me their autograph books to sign. If all archaeologists had were these books to piece together the history of my school, you would think that I never existed.
Maybe I had the Jessica Alba superpower back then.
I think in all my school years I only signed one autograph book. I have to mention though, that apparently my name popped up in one of those books alleging (alleging I tell you) that I had some sort of thing going on with another girl.
Well, maybe something was going on, but then it caused some kind of mini-drama with some friends not speaking to each other any more. Oh well. Don’t let me get started with all the crushes, and the love letters sprayed with my mom’s perfume, and all that.
Okay I just realize that I sound like I was so naughty when I was younger. And I’m probably going to sleep on the sofa tonight. But I wasn’t naughty.
Oh, yes. I was supposed to do the tag. Thank you, terima kasih and xie xie to Giddy Tigress for asking me to sign the autograph book! I’m so happy that I kept it and didn’t dare to work on it!
Since I was so deprived of this activity when I was a teenager, I’m going to answer this as if I was 16.
*put on some nerdy clothes, suck in my stomach to look thinner, and comb my hair like Aaron Kwok*
1) What is your favourite movie?
Last Hero In China 3 (Wong Fei Hung).
2) Who is your favourite singer?
Vanilla Ice.
3) Which song gets you grooving in the morning?
I’m not a morning person. Even Abraham Laboriel can’t get me grooving that early.
4) What is your favourite fruit?
Durian.
5) Who is your best friend (excluding your family)?
Yong Ming Han.
6) Name one activity you would like to indulge in, in your free time.
X-Com 2 – Terror from the Deep.
7) When was the last time you laughed so hard till your sides hurt?
Doing impersonations with my sister.
8.) Do you recall your last dream?
*choke* What kind of question is this? Err… umm… ahhh… nothing… I I I never dream of anything. Nothing… *blush*
9) What is your all-time favourite hobby?
Basketball.
10) When was your last holiday without the children?
I would like to bring my future wife to Paris for our honeymoon. I’m going to be a millionaire before I’m 25. I’m going to buy a BMW for myself. I’m going to get into F1 racing or become an astronaut.
*back to reality*
It is finished! Now I want to tag:
One of my best friends Leon who has just started a blog.
One of the youth from my previous church Carmille who I didn’t know had a blog.
One of the youth from my previous previous church Jared.
One of the youth from my current church Mish.

Haha… I think I am in the same boat as you… no one asked me to sign their autograph book as far as I can remember!
Adino: Maybe you had the Jessica Alba superpower too! Oh yeah, you can do the tag too!

Hmmm… I think I wrote in an autograph book some time… But for us, it wasn’t *that* popular in my secondary schools.
But I always have trouble answering general questions like “what is your favorite …?” because they make me think so hard to sort out all my thoughts and emotions about particular things or people.
Adino: At least you got to write on some. For me it was “read only”
March 19, 2008 at 05:59
This is indeed funny!
I remember something very similiar to that back in the old times. I would never want to return to my secondary school. I shudder at that thought.
You spent your whole life in Malaysia, if that is correct? Your English is excellent!
-YL
Adino: I would want to return to my primary and secondary schools. The problem is, they might not remember me
My wife tells me that it’s because I form a wall between myself and others. I have noticed that to be true.
Yes, I have lived my whole life in Malaysia. But I make too many mistakes to be considered perfect

When all my friends were passing those books around
I felt rather lazy doing it
As I know I will just throw them away later
In the end, everyone got the books (multiple volume) filled up, while mine was like … only 3-4 pages
Adino: Fuiyoh, got multiple volumes some more!
Hope you didn’t throw yours away… because it’s going to be good memories.

Nah. I think your English writing is very good, especially if it is not your first language.
Do you use Facebook, Skype, MSN, or something else to keep in touch with people? I apologize if that question seems strange. I’m being curious.
By the way, congratulations on the coming baby. That is very exciting!
Thanks,
YL
Adino: Yes, I’m on Facebook. I’m looking forward to meeting my baby!

Adino: Ouch.

I would not even care who wrote me as “best friend”
Their action speaks louder than that
March 20, 2008 at 11:15
i went home one day to my father’s house and saw the children playing aeroplanes with the pages from my autograph book. it is all history.
Adino: Waa… got any ‘love notes’ inside ah?
March 20, 2008 at 17:46
I used to do a lot of those autograph books and even had one of my own! But it was from my primary school days! Trust me, it wasn’t just for the popular.
Besides, I think I’m still in touch with only ONE of those fellas from the book. But I’m still in touch with YOU!!! Speaks louds, doesn’t it? Heh.
Adino: Yeah! Love you so much Donny! (in a manly man, brotherhood way, not in the brokeback mountain way)

Hi. just stumble onto ur blog accidently.
nevertheless, it was fun.
Anyway, this post connected so well to most of us. It evoked my memories of silliness and innocence of youth.
Adino: Hi Sumuk, thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog! Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and do things different.
