I don’t know the reason, but things like this keep happening to me or to people I know. So today we have another story of terrible restaurant service, this time served by Margaret Yong Tow Foo in USJ8.
If I’m not wrong, this particular branch is not run by the Margaret Yong Tow Foo people from KL any more, it has been sold to a third party to manage.
This happened to one of my previous church members, Uncle Charles. He doesn’t know that I’m blogging about this.
I will give an impartial sequence of events as I hear it and let you make your own conclusions.
Now, I normally bold certain words to make an emphasis, but I’m not going to do that in the sequence of events below. Just read carefully ok?
- Charles and family sit down for dinner, order their food
- Waiter allegedly puts plates, forks and spoons on the table rather rudely
- Two of the spoons were dirty, so the waiter was asked to replace them
- Waiter allegedly throws the spoons back in the basket of spoons and walks away
- Charles goes to the counter to ask for clean spoons from a lady.
- Waiter allegedly comes up to him and says “If you don’t like it, you can go and fly kite”
- Charles asks “What did you say?”
- Waiter repeats “If you don’t like it, you can go and fly kite”.
- Charles goes to gather his family to leave. By this time, food had just been served to their table.
- As they leave, the waiter allegedly starts shouting at them asking them to pay for the food, scaring their young children to tears. Charles told the waiter that it was he who asked them to leave.
- The waiter allegedly utters racial epitaphs in his fit of rage (Charles is Indian).
- The family get in their car, and the waiter continues shouting. The waiter then allegedly punches the bonnet (hood for you Americans) of Charles’ car, leaving a dent.
- Charles told the waiter that he was going to make a police report.
- The waiter came to the police station after he had cooled down, and Charles identified the waiter to the police.
It’s not in my place to tell you what you should do or what you should not do with this piece of news. After all, I didn’t experience this first hand.
However, I know that the people involved will not lie or make things up.
Anyway, there are far superior Yong Tau Foo restaurants in Puchong.
My intention in writing this post is simple. If you are arrogant enough to think that you can get away with abusing customers, then you don’t deserve to be in business. If you think one customer doesn’t matter, then let me help that one customer have a bigger voice.
That last paragraph didn’t sound very impartial!
It seems that my blog is turning into some customer service activist blog!
Do you have your own terrible customer service experiences to share?

Ooh. That’s really annoying.
Adino: Yes, it was.

Poor Charles….
Adino: I think he dealt with it in a very calm manner

Been to that place quite a few times and always known them to be rude but this experience sounds really out of line. BTW, what happened after sequence # 14?
Adino: I don’t know what happened after that… the story ends there

That sounds positively horrifying! I just had a bad customer service experience on Sunday night at a restaurant in Puchong. Thinking about whether or not to blog about it.
Adino: Yes, please blog about it!

Arr.. so rude one meh..
Adino: Ya, surprising that things like this still happen
February 13, 2008 at 15:46
Certainly some people don’t understand customers are their source of income…sigh
Adino: And yet they stay in business. Some people don’t deserve to be leaders and yet they still get voted in. Life is unfair.
February 13, 2008 at 16:43
and what did the police do?
Adino: I don’t really know. I never asked
February 13, 2008 at 23:26
the establishment must pay for the damage n apologize. it is only fair
Adino: I guess so. I probably should find out what happens in the end.

Sounds like Charles had a bad eating experience. Never had such an experience before. But I’ve heard of waiters spitting into the food if you complain too much. Yuck.
Adino: I heard about that too.
