It’s been a gloomy weekend in KL with the constant rain. We washed our laundry on Friday and only managed to get it dry on Sunday night. I just washed another load of laundry last night and we’ll see when it can get dry.
The Malaysian blogosphere also looks so gloomy these past few weeks. Bloggers seem to be in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Several prominent bloggers have been (or will be) charged soon. First it was Nathaniel Tan, and now a police report was lodged by a politician against RPK. Then there is the ongoing lawsuit by a local newspaper against two bloggers Jeff Ooi and Ahirudin Atan. There are media statements by local politicians branding bloggers as ‘cyber-criminals‘.
As a blogger I always try to be responsible in what I write about. I make sure I only write about things as they really happen. I think twice before writing about any subject because I do not want to offend anyone.
I made it clear from the start that I won’t talk about politics. However there are things going on in our country that many people will not hear about if they only read the ‘news’ reported by our Malaysian media.
There are things I read online that really discourage and disillusion me. What happened to the country I was so proud of?
The sad thing is I have to restrain myself even if I wanted to express my opinion on this blog, or write about how I feel on any ’sensitive’ subjects. Even more dangerous is I am blogging with my real identity, so I guess I am quite traceable.
I always feel that my future can be taken away from me. I am afraid that I will disappear off the face of the earth if I write a wrong sentence on my blog.
Unfortunately I am not connected to any politicians, royalty or famous celebrities so I suppose no one would really care if I got arrested one day.
Sometimes I wonder why people overseas can enjoy so much freedom of expression. I understand freedom requires people to be responsible enough not to abuse the freedom, but if we are constantly restrained, how will we learn?
I understand the good intentions behind censorship to hide issues that will cause widespread panic, fighting and disruption, but censorship to hide corruption and shady deals is wrong. Censorship to cover up mistakes is wrong.
Why? Why? Why?

Adino: Well, I guess if we look at it this way, things seem much better here. However, everyone agrees that things could be better right?

Ah,you are so young and talk like an old man. Or are you an old man talking like a young man?
Take our country as it is. It may not be the best but it is the only one we have. There is always the ballot box every few years. Do not despair.
Adino: Yeah, you are right. It is our country, and home land. I’m excited… going to vote for the first time soon
