Gasp! This Is Me!

Posted June 17th 2008 @ 8:28 am by Adino

I thought I was alone all this while… until I read the Nerd Handbook.

Finally, someone else understands how I feel about computers, why I love solving puzzles, why I treat work like a game, why I devour information, the way I think, why I’m uncomfortable around new people, and where my sense of humour (or lack of it) comes from!

Some exerps:

“… a majority of the folks on the planet either have no idea how a computer works or they look at it and think “it’s magic” … [Nerds] intimately know how a computer works.”

“The nerd has based his career, maybe his life, on the computer…”

“When your nerd is staring at a stranger, all he’s thinking is, “I have no system for understanding this messy person in front of me”. This is where the shy comes from…”

Please read The Nerd Handbook if you think you are a nerd, or you think you’re married to one. At the end of the post, there are some tips for spouses on how to tweak nerd behaviour.

P/S: Last night we celebrated our wedding anniversary at TGI Fridays. Baby Rachel was well behaved, just lying there in her stroller and listening to all the noises around her. We were so stressed that she was going to cry.

Anyway, just want to say that TGIF has lost something. I can’t put my finger on it. The food still comes in generous portions, the service is still good, but the taste seems to be off. I thought my Chicken Caesar Salad was too salty.

There was a birthday celebration at the next table. The servers sang real loud, in the TGIF tradition but nobody could understand what they were shouting.

I’m not really complaining, but just saying that somehow TGIF has gone down a notch.

at times can’t get into your blog but anyway

Happy 1st Wedding Anniversary (men used 2 words, ladies 4 words, double the number men use!! :P ) to you and of course Poey Chin!

Lady Rachel so ‘kwai’ deserves a kiss, muak!!

Adino: Yeah, my web host sucks. In the mean time, you can click on the link on my sidebar to get my posts via email. It’s easier that way.

Unfortunately, Rachel is not so ‘kwai’ at home. She kept us up all night because she was fussy.

Many firsts there I see… 1st wedding anniversary, 1st mother’s day, 1st father’s day, 1st time Rachel went to church, 1st time having dinner out with Rachel… many more firsts to come!

Yeah, I also think that TGIF is not what it used to be anymore. Either that or my standards have gone up. LOL. But dunno why Joyce (GT) gets such good service at TGIF’s Penang?

Adino: Yeah, many firsts… and maybe the Penang TGIF still retains its standards?

    TGIF = ? (Textured GIF-image? :) Just kidding.)

That nerd handbook looks like an interesting read… Thanks for the link!

[Off-topic: I'm at my uncle's house, seeing relatives. That means less Internet access than usual]

Adino: Ahh, that explains the lack of blog posts!

Hey, at least you *have* a TGIF! Here in Boston, they’ve gotten rid of our TGIF, our Applebee’s, and most recently, our Chili’s!

Do they have Applebee’s and Chili’s where you are? If not they’re all the same style restaurant.

And now they’re all gone! …guess nobody in Boston besides me liked them :o (

Adino: We have Chili’s here too. I’m not sure but there might be one Applebee’s restaurant in KL. Wendy’s just opened a new outlet here last year.
