Dealing With Extreme Frustration

Have you ever felt really frustrated with the situation you are in? Have you ever been in a situation where things go wrong through no fault of your own?

Do you feel lost in dealing with frustration? Have you ever wondered how others deal with frustrations in life?

I was inspired to write this article on dealing with frustration because of something that is happening to my friend. I see the situation from within, and I looked at it from another perspective. Either way, there is a lot of frustration on all sides.

Frustration always happens when we don’t get what we want. For example, I would be frustrated if I was in line at the grocery store and the cashier was slow. The source of frustration would be me not being able to complete my transaction quickly. In another example, I would be frustrated with someone who disagrees with me, because I cannot that person to think the way I want them to think.

Frustration that is not managed properly can be very destructive. When we get frustrated,we find that we become very tense and stressed. My back muscles can harden and bunch up until it hurts to lie down. My blood pressure increases. Different people have different reactions to frustration. Some people who are more extrovert will display their frustration, while introverts may keep it bottled inside.

Extreme frustration happens when the stress becomes too much for you to handle. You make rash decisions. You get easily angered. You get paranoid. You engage in anti-social behavior.

How do we deal with extreme frustration? Through my observations, I have noticed people doing different things. Some people have the most remarkable ability to let things slide off. It’s like they’re Teflon: nothing sticks. Some people resign themselves to the fact that nothing can be done. They leave it to karma, or divine justice to improve the situation.

Personally, I handle frustrations by converting the stored ‘energy’ into actions. A good way for me to get my mind off things is to exercise. For example, I was so upset one day I swam 80 laps in the pool. By doing that I get to release stress, work out my muscles, and have time to think things through.

Writing this article has taught me look deep within myself to the source of my frustration. Is there something that I can’t get? I’ll have to explore my feelings to find out. I guess in the process of growing up, everyone will come to this realization.

So, how do you handle frustration? I would love to hear from you.

    You know what?>
The most frustrating thing in the world is when you are frustrated and you google it and click on first link on how to handle frustration, the website talks about dealing with extreme frustratation all along and in the end asks for money to purchase the book.
The most meanest thing ever. And I am sure the writer of this book and everyone involved have had never to deal with or do anything with frustration cause it they did, they would write something to help the person relax and de-frustrate rather than just asking him point blank to buy their stuff of which they dont have any knowledge.
Just some fakers trying to earn some easy money by robbing people by showing them nothing

    Adino: I don’t think that’s mean.

All I did was I shared on how I dealt with frustration, and at the end I offered links to some books that could help for people who were more interested in the topic.

I don’t handle frustration very well. I tend to become emotional, I cry, and my boyfriend doesnt understand why. Neither do I. When we have a disagreement, and I’m trying to understand what it is, and sometimes he won’t let me say what I want to, thats frustrating. All my life I have been an emotional person when I’m Happy sad, angry frustrated I tend to cry. Why? I don’t know its just the way I have been all my life and he can’t accept that, There is more to it, he tells me. And that in itself is very frustrating

Adino: I don’t think there’s anything wrong about being emotional. People are made different, so we each have different temperaments. Your boyfriend must learn to listen to you. That’s essential for a smooth future together.

Thanks for sharing. I hope you will stick around.

I get extremely frustrated, so much so that I could throw myself out of a window. It only happens with my partner Jim who is intrasigent, non compliant and deaf or critical to most if not all of the suggestions I make. When this happens I throw things or slam things (like doors). This is only a recent phenominon but could be something to do with stress. Jim suffers from depression and anxiety and is obsessive about his art so much so that he does not have a life outside of work. For anyone who finds they are in this position the answer is exercise – run out of the damn door and don’t look back!!!

i normally tend to have extremely shaky hands when frustrated. i also tend to cry or yell and break things.
but nothing calms you better than vigorous excercise. you need to make sure that your really tired. then you tend to either eat or sleep an forget about what was annoying you. that’s the best solution i know. this way you dont regret what you do an you dont increase your blood pressure either!

Adino: Thanks for the tip. Physical exercise is really helpful to allow you to release some of that pent up energy.
